Close to 100 years of experience in the art of distillation
The distillation of spirits is a family tradition that stretches back almost one-hundred years. Young Hans Affentranger, who established a one-man spirit and syrup manufacturing business at the age of 20, started the tradition in Willisau in 1918, laying the foundation for the modern DIWISA. Today, the enterprise is one of the top modern European distilleries and employs over 100 staff members.
Popular and going strong
Spirits from Willisau soon became fashionable far beyond the region. Especially the fruit spirits quickly established themselves as essential beverages in restaurants and at festivities.

Irrepressible innovative power and highly motivated staff have propelled the Willisau distillery into the position of leading Swiss manufacturer and distributor of alcoholic beverages. The family-run enterprise has developed a perfect blend of tradition distillery craft and high technology.
Milestones in the Company Development
2014 – The Successor
Adrian Affentranger assumes the role of majority shareholder and managing director as part of the succession plan. Andreas Affentranger continues to support the company as the chairman of the board.
2004 – Marketing Orientation
René Gut takes over as CEO in the management of DIWISA, an innovation thinker and doer, with experience in the international spirits business.
1996 – The Third Generation
Andreas Affentranger assumes a role as managing director.
1965 – The Heavy Blow
Hans Affentranger, jr. has a fatal accident while on a business trip abroad. He is survived by his wife and their three small children, Christa, Claudia and Andreas. Shortly thereafter, Heidy Affentranger’s brother, Dr. Rolf Studer, becomes a member of the management team.
1947 – The Second Generation
After his initial training, Hans Affentranger, jr. takes the helm as managing director.
1946 – Change of the Legal Structure
The previous sole proprietorship is converted into a joint-stock company. It is called Distillerie Willisau, AG Hans Affentranger.
1928 – First Expansion
After ten successful years of operation, the company is expanded: On land purchased from the Willisau municipal corporation for CHF 1.5/m², a new building arises with a residence, cellar, distillery and other premises.
1918 – Founding
Hans Affentranger founds a sole proprietorship for the manufacture and trade of spirits, liqueurs and syrups.
